• Helsinki Architecture & Design Museum

In the quiet of Helsinki’s harbor, where international ferries arrive from afar, and the Old Town stands as a silent witness of history, a new conception of architecture takes shape – one that does not merely construct spaces, but weaves thoughts, memories, and meanings. The TCA team pursued this vision not with the haste of technology or the rush of the market, but with a meditative patience, emerging only from observing nature itself.

Above this massive wooden block floats the linear, almost weightless structure, like a cloud above the landscape. It winds lightly, like a thought, over the city, like a serpent of light and material. Within it are the exhibition spaces – the very heart of the museum.

Herein lies the strength of the design: architecture is not only a means of presenting design and architecture, but itself becomes a subject for intellectual engagement. The wooden block defines ground, stability, and materiality; the floating line defines light, transparency, and movement.

It is as if the museum itself were a thought rendered in space and material: tree and cloud, heavy and light, familiar and new. It invites visitors to contemplate architecture and design not merely as functional solutions, but as carriers of culture, identity, and human experience.

TCA design treats the museum as a multilayered sign: speaking of wood and light, city and nature, matter and idea. It urges visitors not only to see, but to interpret, reflect, and move in a dialogue between nature, culture, and architecture.

In contemplating this design, one realizes: architecture is not merely enclosure, not merely space, not merely design. It is a space for the mind, a place where history, present, and future can be perceived, experienced, and thought simultaneously. And in Helsinki, at the waterfront, between harbor and Old Town, the line floats like a cloud, while the massive timber block mirrors the roots of the city and nature – a monument to the idea itself.

Between Water, City and Memory
There are cities that are defined not merely by their buildings, but by the stories that unfold between them. Rotterdam is one of these rare places. More than one of Europe’s most important ports, it is a laboratory of modernity, an open archive of architectural experimentation, and an urban landscape where industry, innovation, and culture weave together into a new form of urban life.
Rotterdam’s skyline speaks of economic strength and global connectivity. Yet its true significance lies not in the height of its towers, but in their dialogue with water. Canals, docks, and river landscapes are not boundaries of the city—they are its language. Water is Rotterdam’s memory and, at the same time, its future.
Our proposal therefore does not regard this site as an isolated parcel of land, but as a continuation of this urban narrative. The canal directly adjoining the site is not treated as a picturesque backdrop but as an active component of everyday life. Architecture begins where people are given the opportunity to experience water, natural light, and the changing rhythm of the seasons.

Tariş Administration Building
There are institutions that merely administer, and there are those that remember. TARİŞ belongs to that rare category that does both at once: it organizes the market while preserving a memory. A memory of the earth, of hands, and of time.
The cooperative is not, in essence, a modern invention. Rather, it is the re-emergence of an ancient principle: the direct relationship between producer and community, long before intermediaries came to dominate exchange.
The design for the administrative building of TARİŞ in Izmir therefore faces a paradoxical task: how does one administer something that is, by nature, not abstract but profoundly physical? How does one design a place for decisions, numbers, and contracts when their true origin lies in the soil?
Tuncer Cakmakli Architects respond not with symbols, but with a spatial gesture of almost archaic clarity: the earth itself becomes the building.
A fragment of land is raised from the ground, creating space beneath—space for administration, exchange, and the intellectual labor that allows what is made by hand to reach the world.
The metaphor is clear, yet not loud: just as the farmer works the soil to transform a seed into sustenance, administration works information, logistics, and markets to transform labor into meaning and value. Both are acts of cultivation.
In this building, architecture itself becomes a cooperative. It mediates between hand and mind, between ground and global market, between past and future. It reminds us that the farmer’s greatest asset is not the product, but the soil itself—a gift of nature that can endure only through responsible care.
Perhaps the quiet radicality of this design lies precisely here: it asserts that even in a globalized economy, everything begins with the earth. And that any form of administration that forgets this will, sooner or later, lose the ground beneath its feet.
Here, however, the earth remains present—not as an image, but as weight, as shelter, as origin.
And therein lies its dignity.

Ara Güler Museum Beyoğlu

The museum is conceived as a passage from image to memory. Rather than isolating Ara Güler’s work in neutral rooms, the design connects exhibition, archive, research and daily rituals through a vertical sequence of glass steps, daylight and interior façades. The study room, dark room, relaxation room and Kafe Ara remain in their positions, allowing the museum to hold traces of lived space while opening new frames for visitors. Walls around the stair become shared surfaces for perception: light enters, photographs are approached, and the human-city relation at the centre of Güler’s work becomes spatial. — TCA · Tuncer Çakmaklı Architects

Yaşam için bütün güzelliklerin cömertçe sun

Yaşam için bütün güzelliklerin cömertçe sunulduğu bu dünyada;

Bugün yalnızca bir takvim bayramı değil;
insanın insana yeniden inanma, affetme, yakınlaşma ve umut etme günüdür.

Yüreğimizden eksilmeyen barış, adalet ve sevgi dileğiyle…
Mutlu bayramlar. .In this world where all the beauties of life have been generously bestowed upon us,we dream of a life where people are no longer turned against one another, where borders are crossed not with fear but with hope, and where children grow up hearing not the sounds of war, but the voices of birds and the sea.

Without forgetting the fertility of the earth, the shade of a tree, the value of labor, and the brotherhood shared through bread at the table…May we live without hurting one another, seeing our differences not as reasons for hostility, but as a richness, and may we experience every moment of life with the joy and spirit of a celebration.

Today is not only a holiday on the calendar;it is a day to believe in one another again, to forgive, to come closer, and to hope.

With wishes for peace, justice, and love to never leave our hearts…Happy Holidays.

The Measurement of the Earth – On Signs, Borders

The Measurement of the Earth – On Signs, Borders, and the Architecture of Nation
The Earth has given humankind a place to live, to wander, to think.
And man, unable to grasp this gift in its wholeness, began to divide it.
He drew lines where once there were only horizons; he cast nets of words over the silence of nature.
Thus languages were born — the first borders, not of land, but of the mind.
Later, as Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote in one of his unbearable yet lucid sentences, someone took four stakes, drove them into the ground, and said: “This belongs to me.”
And the others, instead of laughing, believed him.
Yet wherever boundaries are drawn, bridges also arise.
A place that is both here and elsewhere — an architectural paradox, a symbol of the simultaneity of distance and proximity.
In Berlin, a city shaped by the dialectic of division and reunion, the Turkish Embassy holds a particular significance.
It is not merely a diplomatic residence but a translation — a translation of history, culture, and tectonic language into the stone and landscape of another country.
The TCA Design Team sought here to articulate the unspeakable — to create an architecture that does not simply speak but suggests.
The forms, materials, and landscapes of Turkey were deconstructed, analyzed, and recomposed.
From the tectonic language of Anatolia, a new syntax emerged: spaces that carry meaning, just as words carry memory.
The public areas unfold like a dialogue — transparent, welcoming — while the diplomatic, protected zones retreat inward, listening to themselves like a second heart.
For what is diplomacy, if not the art of speaking between borders, without crossing them?
And what is architecture, if not the art of making such invisible relations visible?
Thus the embassy becomes more than a building — it becomes a thought in stone,
reminding us that ever since man began to measure the earth, he has still been searching for a place where he might truly arrive.

There are cities whose histories do not merely res

There are cities whose histories do not merely rest in archives but continue to breathe through the joints of their walls, the shadows of their arcades, and the rhythm of their bazaars. Qazvin, in the northwest of Persia, is one such city. Here, the millennia meet like two old acquaintances who no longer need to explain themselves. For Persia—this high civilization that has patiently corrected, refined, and at times reinvented the world’s cultural landscape—remains a place where past and present coexist in a rare equilibrium.

It is in this setting, along the historic route between Tabriz and Tehran, that a new tourist complex is envisioned: a five-star hotel, a bazaar, and cultural institutions—an ensemble that demands not only to be built but to be read. For in Qazvin, architecture is never just stone; it is a text written in light and shadow, revised by generations, edited in every dome and every vault that stretches above the viewer like a carpet woven in stone.

Within this hermeneutic landscape, the design by TCA does not seek to imitate the historical architecture—a sin in architecture comparable to plagiarism in literature. Instead, TCA proposes a dialogue rather than an echo. The architectural heritage of the region is not quoted but interpreted: the play of light and shadow reappears, freed from nostalgia; the domes and vaults resonate again, without collapsing into museum-like replicas.
