Here begins the detailed planning, carried by the fairly compensated work of the architect team, nurtured by the recognition and support that keeps creativity alive.

Since humanity first began to reflect upon its own existence, the search for faith has accompanied it as an inseparable companion. The unknown, the inexplicable, and the awareness of our own mortality urged human beings to seek a form of inner equilibrium—one they often believed could be found in faith. Across millennia, different religious paths emerged, yet all of them—despite their variety—sought to offer the same promise: inner peace.
And if Göbekli Tepe in southeastern Turkey stands today as one of the earliest known expressions of sacred yearning, it reveals something remarkable: that human beings, regardless of the form their beliefs took, were bound together by the same questions, the same fears, and the same hopes.
Yet the paradox remains: although humans are equal before God, history is marked by countless wars waged in God’s name. Boundaries have been drawn, sacrifices demanded—and still demanded—though life on Earth is only a brief gift allotted to each of us. The joy of living together should be a shared experience, not a battleground. Humanity’s inability to understand the roots of this inner discord is one of its oldest tragedies; the primordial tale of Cain and Abel shows how jealousy, the desire for possession, and intolerance toward the Other were woven into the early fabric of our consciousness.

In the quiet of Helsinki’s harbor, where international ferries arrive from afar, and the Old Town stands as a silent witness of history, a new conception of architecture takes shape – one that does not merely construct spaces, but weaves thoughts, memories, and meanings. The TCA team pursued this vision not with the haste of technology or the rush of the market, but with a meditative patience, emerging only from observing nature itself.

Above this massive wooden block floats the linear, almost weightless structure, like a cloud above the landscape. It winds lightly, like a thought, over the city, like a serpent of light and material. Within it are the exhibition spaces – the very heart of the museum.

Herein lies the strength of the design: architecture is not only a means of presenting design and architecture, but itself becomes a subject for intellectual engagement. The wooden block defines ground, stability, and materiality; the floating line defines light, transparency, and movement.

It is as if the museum itself were a thought rendered in space and material: tree and cloud, heavy and light, familiar and new. It invites visitors to contemplate architecture and design not merely as functional solutions, but as carriers of culture, identity, and human experience.

Xi’An Silk Road Museum

The Western Türkiye and Caucasus Region of the Xi’an New Silk Road Museum interprets the Silk Road not merely as a trade route, but as a vast network of encounter through which people, knowledge, cultures and migrations moved across continents.
The architectural concept reinterprets the historic caravanserai as a contemporary museum. Two interlocking squares define a sequence of open, semi-open and enclosed spaces, while courtyards, bridges, tunnels and thresholds guide visitors through both a physical and intellectual journey between cultures.
Light, water, earth, shadow and scent become architectural materials. Archive and exhibition spaces dedicated to Turkish, Armenian, Georgian, Azerbaijani and Caucasian cultures preserve their individual identities while remaining connected around a shared courtyard.
The museum is conceived not simply as a place that displays the past, but as a living cultural environment that can be experienced, felt and questioned.
The Silk Road of the past connected geographies.
The Silk Road of today and tomorrow must reconnect people, knowledge and diverse cultures around the idea of a shared world.

There are cities whose histories do not merely rest in archives but continue to breathe through the joints of their walls, the shadows of their arcades, and the rhythm of their bazaars. Qazvin, in the northwest of Persia, is one such city. Here, the millennia meet like two old acquaintances who no longer need to explain themselves. For Persia—this high civilization that has patiently corrected, refined, and at times reinvented the world’s cultural landscape—remains a place where past and present coexist in a rare equilibrium.

It is in this setting, along the historic route between Tabriz and Tehran, that a new tourist complex is envisioned: a five-star hotel, a bazaar, and cultural institutions—an ensemble that demands not only to be built but to be read. For in Qazvin, architecture is never just stone; it is a text written in light and shadow, revised by generations, edited in every dome and every vault that stretches above the viewer like a carpet woven in stone.

Within this hermeneutic landscape, the design by TCA does not seek to imitate the historical architecture—a sin in architecture comparable to plagiarism in literature. Instead, TCA proposes a dialogue rather than an echo. The architectural heritage of the region is not quoted but interpreted: the play of light and shadow reappears, freed from nostalgia; the domes and vaults resonate again, without collapsing into museum-like replicas.
