Harbiye Open-Air Theater

ISTANBUL

Harbiye Open-Air Theater was completed in 1950 and has left unforgettable memories of Istanbul’s cultural life to the present day.

As an open-air theater, the Harbiye Open-Air Theater, which can only be opened during the summer months, serves as an open-air stage for opera, theater, music and dance performing arts.

Static reinforcement, movable roof cover, acoustic renovation, sound visual center, theater museum and landscape projects have been made within the scope of the renovation project in order to make the concert organizations continuous and to keep the stage open 365 days of the year regardless of the seasonal conditions.
A pneumatic membrane roof is designed which can be opened and closed in all weather conditions 365 days of the year by increasing the acoustic quality with an original facade without disturbing the open air atmosphere.
The static pneumatic membrane transfers the loads through the center core and the main column around the stage with a hoop tensile force carrying the roof without static touching the structure as much as possible.

And all the technical equipment along with the below of the stage has been brought to the size and equipment that can be performed in the performing arts. Behind the stage, the sound-image center and the theater museum have been placed into the park with a green cover and the open air theater has been rebuilt in order to be live and open for the all year round.
The stage will now be able to allow different shows and theater-opera plays with a moving base. The stage is completely covered with a new large fixed roof and includes audio and visual equipment.
Spectator side facades shall be limited to fixed wood and glass structure facades in order to increase acoustic quality and to establish concert concentration and upper planes shall be opened as guillotine windows. In order to carry out different art activities together with the congress valley, the open-air theater is arranged as activity parks and terraces.
Sound-visual center, theater museum, theater park and multi-functional artistic activities will be possible in the open air.
